The MacArthur - Brooks Wedding
|
|
In early 1922, Brigadier General Douglas MacArthur married Louise Cromwell Brooks at the Stotesbury estate El Mirasol in Palm Beach. It was the social event of the season. MacArthur was a highly decorated war hero and the current superintendent of the U.S. Military Academy at West Point, New York. Louise was a vivacious, attractive divorcée and Eva Stotesbury's only daughter. Although MacArthur hardly mentioned his first marriage in his later years, there is a lot to be told about this relationship and the events leading up to, during and after the wedding. In honor of the centennial anniversary of this wedding, my wife and I created this slide show podcast, using recently uncovered archival information that sheds new light on an old story.
